Fortunately, the warranty was still good and I got it back working as good as new. Unfortunately, I didn’t know what I was doing and I think I fried it. However, it was because I wanted to try and overclock it. I had one other time when a motherboard went bad on me. In the meantime, I’m curious as to what everyone else’s opinion is on this and what I should do taking into consideration some facts:ġ) How long I’ve had the motherboard before the SATA error (11 months)Ģ) How much the motherboard cost ($87.99)ģ) How much shipping charges are for a motherboard

However, I’m going to try to salvage whatever data I can from my hard drives before I pull the motherboard. I’m thinking of taking advantage of my warranty. But, from what I’ve read, they don’t need it unless they run really hot for long periods of time. The most activity I’ve attempted to do with it is host a Minecraft game I’ll admit I don’t run fans on my hard drives. My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-H97M-D3H. This leads me to think it’s some type of SATA controller problem. However, my partition manager could read it and possibly attempt to recover the data on the hard drive. I did that via a SATA PCI card I had but still couldn’t setup the drive in Computer Management. I did some further research and found a suggestion to try it in a different SATA port along with a different SATA cable. I got myself a new one and, in under 24 hours, it stopped being readable as well. So, I just figured I got the 1 in 1,000 hard drives that went bad. The only test that showed it had a problem was the long generic test. It was a Seagate so I tried Seagate tools. I tried several different partition managers/recovery programs and none of them could read it. Every time I tried to reinitialize it in Computer Management, it kept on saying “Device I/O Error” or something like that. One of my hard drive suddenly became unreadable. It was running perfectly fine between September 2014 to August 2015. I bought some new hard drives to go with it. It didn’t have to be fancy and it wasn’t for data backup as much as just being a storage system.
